The documentary "La Diosa Quebrada," (The Broken Goddess) produced between Chile and Venezuela by Ximena Pereira, who is also the director and screenwriter, will have its North American premiere at the renowned HOT DOCS documentary film festival in the city of Toronto, Canada.

The production team, composed of XimenaFilms, Creaciones Animadas, and Salvaje Films, shares their excitement at this significant recognition from the international documentary film industry by including their work in the official section “WORLD SHOWCASE” and the audience award.

"The Broken Goddess" will be screened on May 3rd and 5th, and the director will attend the presentations to continue the newly started distribution path of the film and continue promoting and making new connections that allow her to progress in this fundamental stage.

This documentary is based on an event that occurred in Caracas, Venezuela, 20 years ago when the famous statue of Queen and Goddess María Lionza, queen of the waters, nature, and a cultural symbol in the city of Caracas, was split in two.

Over two decades of filming, this documentary delves into the fracture not only of the statue but also of the soul of a nation and the fracture of the director herself, who, as a migrant, nostalgically recalls the story as she tells it.

Ximena Pereira, Chilean-Venezuelan, combines her two countries in the narrative and also manages to achieve a co-production between Ximena Films (Chile) and Creaciones Animadas (Venezuela), securing support for post-production from the National Autonomous Center of Cinematography of Venezuela.
