Ximena Pereira's documentary "The Broken Goddess" will have its world premiere on March 3 at 9:00 PM at the prestigious Málaga Film Festival, in the Andalusian community of Spain.

The film, a co-production between Ximena Films in Chile and Carolina Dávila from Creaciones Animadas in Venezuela, is presented in the Official Competition of Documentary Short Films.

The Málaga festival showcases the most relevant premieres of Spanish cinema with high audience attendance and offers a variety of parallel and industry activities. In recent years, it has broadened its spectrum to include Latin American cinema in its programming, which includes feature-length and short fiction and documentary films.

The plot explores the last 20 years of Venezuelan history through the figure of María Lionza - a goddess and symbol of Venezuelan spirituality - with a poetic and personal approach.

Starting from the breaking of the María Lionza statue in 2004 and the subsequent conflict between a replica and its original statue that persists to this day, the migrant director nostalgically recalls the city of Caracas while narrating from a bridge in Santiago de Chile, finding a reflection of her own fracture and the wound of many people in the diaspora.

After participating in the "Docs for Sale" distribution market at IDFA in Amsterdam last November, the team celebrates Málaga's recognition in selecting their work and prepares to continue its journey on the festival circuit.

"The Broken Goddess" was made with the participation of Salvaje Films (Venezuela-Mexico) and CNAC in Venezuela.
